Lap Band or Adjustable Gastric Band
An adjustable gastric band or Lap Band is an inflatable silicone prosthetic device that is placed around the top portion of the stomach (This procedure is also called stomach banding).
The placement of the band causes the creation of a small pouch at the top of the stomach that holds approximately 30 ml (about 1/8 cup). As the upper part of the stomach registers as full, the message to the brain is that the entire stomach is full and this sensation helps the person to be hungry less often, to feel full more quickly, to eat smaller portions, and lose weight over time.

Lap Band FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Does the Gastric Band has to be remove after I have lost the desired weight?
